Basketball Recap: Berry Comes Up Short

Berry lost against Rocky River back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Berry Cardinals received a blow as they fell 60-45 to the Rocky River Ravens. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while the Ravens are ranked 158th).

When it comes to explaining why Berry lost, don't look at Zahnia Long. Despite the final result, she posted 29 points. Brynlee Miller was another key player, putting up seven points.

Rocky River's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lundyn Spears, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Bell, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 14 points and five assists.

Berry is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5. As for Rocky River, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Berry will challenge West Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rocky River, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-36 loss against North Mecklenburg on the 11th.
