Football Game Preview: Mineral County Serpents vs. Wells Leopards

Mineral County has gone a perfect 4-0 against Wells recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Serpents will take on the Leopards at 5:00 p.m. Mineral County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Wells likes a good challenge.

Mineral County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Carlin, who was ranked third at the time (Mineral County was ranked fourth). The Serpents took down the Railroaders 54-38 on Friday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mineral County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chase Reeves, who threw for 475 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 44 yards and one score. Those seven passing touchdowns gave Reeves a new career-high. Robert Wilson was another key pass catcher, picking up 185 receiving yards and four TDs.

Mineral County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Reeves and Dylan Johnson. Reeves has been hot, having also posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played.

Meanwhile, Wells hadn't done well against Pyramid Lake recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Leopards strolled past the Lakers with points to spare, taking the game 52-36.

Mineral County pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.0 points over those games. As for Wells, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Everything came up roses for Mineral County against Wells in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 52-24 victory. In that contest, the Serpents amassed a halftime lead of 38-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
