Softball Game Preview: Burkburnett Bulldogs vs. Castleberry Lions

The Burkburnett Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Castleberry Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Burkburnett has three straight victories, Castleberry has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Burkburnett beat Bridgeport 6-3.

Kennedy Smith made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.

Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lydia Duff, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another was Macie Call, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Castleberry and Springtown have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Lions came up short against the Porcupines, falling 11-1. That's two games in a row now that the Lions have lost by exactly ten runs.

Burkburnett pushed their record up to 13-16 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Castleberry, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-19-1.

Burkburnett was able to grind out a solid win over Castleberry when the teams last played back in March, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
