Wade Brogdon can't seem to do anything but help Brookwood win games. Friday night, the senior utility player nailed two field goals and had an interception in a 21-7 victory over South Gwinnett for the Broncos.

Brogdon is also Brookwood’s punter and was preparing to do just that on his own 14 when the snap was too high and he had to fall on it, giving the opposing Comets prime field position. On the Comets’ ensuing play, Brogdon made a key interception.

Brookwood (6-3, 6-1) will now prepare for its biggest game of the year next week against archrival Parkview(6-3, 5-2), who won big Friday night over Shiloh. South Gwinnett (3-6, 3-4) faces Berkmar.

Other Action: Peachtree Ridge 20, Norcross 7

The Peachtree Ridge Lions showed their coach that they have heart just weeks after Bill Ballard was not pleased with his team's emotional effort. They did so by beating the Norcross Blue Devils 20-7, riding an outstanding performance from LSU-bound linebacker Adam Minter.

Minter stood up Blue Devil running back D.J. Adams at the two-yard line, preventing Norcross from scoring and getting his team back in the game. The emotional play charged the Lions, now 7-2 and 7-0 in Region 7-AAAAA play. Peachtree Ridge will take on North Gwinnett next Friday for the regional title.

Collins Hill 31, South Forsyth 28

Collins Hill held off the South Forsyth 31-28 in a Region 7-AAAAA match-up Friday night, but it came down to a last-second field goal by Eagle kicker Craig Tanguay from 32 yards out.

Collins Hill running back Charles Perkins finished with 214 yards on 18 carries with three touchdowns, aiding the Eagles’ cause. South Forsyth (3-6, 2-5) was good enough to hang with the Eagles (8-1, 6-1), who are among the Region 7-AAAAA elite.

Kell 24, Alpharetta 7

The Kell Longhorns, just 2-8 just a year ago, defeated Alpharetta 24-7 Halloween night, sealing a spot in the playoffs after improving to 8-1 and 7-1 in Region 6-AAAAA.

"If you had come to me and said that in June or July, I would have thought you were insane," Derek Cook told the Marietta Daily Journal of his team's playoff berth. "These guys have earned what they have achieved."

Kell can celebrate for now, but it still have a very tough match-up to finish the regular season against the Milton Eagles(7-2, 6-2) next Friday night.

Walton 28, Roswell 21

The Walton Raiders continue to be the class of Region 6-AAAAA as they edged out the Roswell Hornets Friday night 28-21 on Roswell's home field. The Raiders improved to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the region, while the Hornets have lost two in a row and sit at 5-4 overall and 5-3 in the region.

After Roswell scored with roughly six minutes remaining in the game to bring them within seven points of the Raiders, Walton managed the clock by gaining several first downs and running the ball.

Etowah 27, North Cobb 14

Last year's undefeated No.1 team in the state after the regular season will not even reach the playoffs this season as the Etowah Eagles (8-1, 7-1) defeated the North Cobb Warriors (4-5, 3-5) 27-14.

Ryan Boykin led the ground attack for the Eagles as he finished with 22 carries for 188 yards and two touchdowns. After a long playoff drought, Etowah is poised to make its third consecutive postseason appearance out of Region 5-AAAAA.

Martin Luther King 42, Redan 7

Mack Brown has been getting a lot of attention lately and MLK’s junior running back helped his new team defeat his former team, 42-7. Brown led the charge with 302 yards rushing and three touchdowns, causing his former teammates to wonder what kind of talent they lost.

The win is huge for the Lions as they improved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in Region 2-AAAAA and remain tied in the region's top spot with Union Grove (8-1, 6-1), whom they play next Friday to end the season.

Chamblee 21, Stone Mountain 6

The Chamblee Bulldogs (5-4, 4-4) pulled out a big win as they defeated Stone Mountain (3-6, 3-5), 21-6. Leading the charge for the Bulldogs was banged up tailback Warren Norman, who finished with 103 yards and two touchdowns while adding two interceptions on the other side of the ball.

The Bulldogs are vying for the fourth and final playoff spot out of Region 6-AAAA and that will be decided next Friday as they face a Miller Grove squad that is in a similar position.

Jackson 14, Woodward 7

No. 10 Jackson beat Woodward 14-7 Halloween night with help from a fake punt.

The trickery came with just 1:31 remaining in the game and Jackson scored the winning touchdown on the play to improve to 9-0 overall and in 7-0 in Region 4-AAA which it clinched with the victory.

“I just did what it took to give us the win,” quarterback Quint McKibben told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution of the call. “It was a tight game throughout and we needed it. That’s why we practice it.”

Buford 29, Westminster 7

The Buford Wolves won their 24th straight game by rolling past Westminster, 29-7. The Wolves are 9-0 on the season and 7-0 in Region 6-AA play. The victory is just one more reason why people wonder if this Buford squad will lose a game as they fight for their second-straight state title.

Buford nearly lost last week before pulling out a narrow 14-10 victory over Blessed Trinity and head coach Jess Simpson felt like his team learned from that game.

“When something like that happens, you kind of start to wonder where you are as a team,” Simpson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “But it’s good to be humbled. I’m proud of how we bounced back. This win is a big deal for us.”
