Football Recap: Conneaut Gets the Win

Conneaut's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 50-49 photo finish over the Lakeside Dragons. The Spartans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the defeat, Lakeside saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jj Murphy threw for 314 yards and five TDs. The Dragons' leading receiver Matthew Wagner was Murphy's top target yet again, picking up 171 receiving yards and one score.

Conneaut's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Lakeside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8.

Conneaut and Lakeside could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 478th) will meet Madison (ranked 168th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lakeside will square off against Edgewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (556 vs. 272).
