Baseball Game Preview: Ralston Valley Mustangs vs. Erie Tigers

The Ralston Valley Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Erie Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Ralston Valley saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell 6-1 to Paradise Honors.

Jake Watts was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Ralston Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Hays, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. Mason Gilbreth also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Erie didn't have quite enough to beat West Albany on Saturday and fell 9-8. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Erie also got a good showing from Jeremiah Flaum, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Flaum a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Ronin Ward was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Kodie Shafter was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Ralston Valley now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Erie, their record now sits at 3-2.
