Basketball Recap: Cortez Comes Up Short

Cortez was the 43-20 winner over Marcos de Niza when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Cortez Colts received a blow on Thursday as they fell 55-38 to the Marcos de Niza Padres.

Marcos de Niza found their leader in freshman Kiana Greer, who went 8 for 16 on her way to 23 points and eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Greer has scored all season. Abigail Cooper was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Cortez now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Marcos de Niza, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Glendale the next time they take the court. Marcos de Niza will head out to face Glendale at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, while Cortez will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
