Basketball Recap: Central Christian Extends Winning Streak to Six

Central Christian entered their tilt with Pretty Prairie on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 37-31 W against the Pretty Prairie Bulldogs. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amity White, who posted 11 points and five steals. White is becoming a predictor of Pretty Prairie's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Miller, who had 11 points.

Central Christian's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points over those games. As for Pretty Prairie, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cougars take on the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Christian is facing Cunningham at the right time seeing as Cunningham is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pretty Prairie, they will challenge Fairfield on Friday.
