Softball Recap: Citrus Comes Up Short

Citrus had taken South Sumter down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Citrus Hurricanes took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Sumter Raiders. The Hurricanes were not able to make up for their loss to the Raiders from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Makayla Hetman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season. Baylie Goodwin was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Hetman wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Citrus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Citrus has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. The win made it two in a row for South Sumter and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

Coming up, Citrus will venture away from home to square off against Lecanto at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Citrus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season. As for South Sumter, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against The Villages Charter at 7:00 p.m. South Sumter also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 6.8 runs per game.
