The Point Pleasant Big Blacks will head out on the road to square off against the George Washington Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Point Pleasant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
While Point Pleasant's win against Fort Frye wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Big Blacks had just enough and edged out the Cadets 9-8. The victory continues a trend for the Big Blacks in their matchups with the Cadets: they've now won three in a row.
Rylann Macknight looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bralee Roush and Josie Shobe did most of the damage at the plate: Roush scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Shobe scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those three hits gave Roush a new career-high. Chloe Patrick also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Point Pleasant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, George Washington never let their opponents score on Saturday. They put the hurt on Huntington with a sharp 13-0 win. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Patriots this season.
George Washington let Campbell Lunsford and Natali Tomblin run wild. Lunsford scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Tomblin scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Ava Armstrong was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
George Washington is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Point Pleasant, their record is now 7-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Point Pleasant hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like George Washington struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
