Tri-West Hendricks and Frankfort are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bruins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hot Dogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Tri-West Hendricks sitting on four straight wins and Frankfort on six.
Tri-West Hendricks took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Indian Creek, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bruins narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Braves 4-3.
Zack Baute made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one double.
In other pitching news, Logan Haboush looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
Baute wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Frye, who went 2-for-6 with two runs.
While Frankfort didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Covenant Christian by a score of 7-2 on Friday.
RJ Cornman looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lalo Castillo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Taran Emery was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Frankfort was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Frankfort pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Tri-West Hendricks, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tri-West Hendricks has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Frankfort struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tri-West Hendricks came up short against Frankfort in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 9-5. Can the Bruins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
