Basketball Game Preview: Ray Bearcats vs. Patagonia Lobos

The Ray Bearcats just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Patagonia Lobos at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Ray challenged Superior on Friday. Ray was the clear victor by a 33-12 margin over Superior.

Patagonia fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 39-29 victory over Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind on Wednesday.

Patagonia's win came from a few key players Ray will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Valeria Castellanos, who posted eight points in addition to 11 boards and three steals. Those 11 rebounds gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Majalca, who put up nine points and three steals.

Ray's win ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-12. As for Patagonia, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-12 record this season.

Ray suffered a grim 51-25 defeat to Patagonia when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Patagonia's Emma Lewton, who had 26 points and four steals.
