Basketball Recap: Hillgrove Wins High-Profile Match Against Campbell

On Friday, Hillgrove faced Campbell in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Hillgrove Hawks came out on top against the Campbell Spartans by a score of 54-47. The victory was nothing new for the Hawks as they're now sitting on five straight.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hillgrove to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amaya Harris, who posted 15 points. Harris continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Harris, who had 14 points and four steals.

Hillgrove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Campbell still got an impressive performance from Saniya Binion, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 16 points and three steals. Binion is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 18 games she's played. Marlie Battle was another key player, putting up eight points along with six boards and four blocks.

Hillgrove's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27.3 points. As for Campbell, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-3.

Hillgrove does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Campbell, they will be playing at home against Paulding County at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
