Baseball Recap: Waggener Takes a Loss

Waggener extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-10. They came up short against the Brown Bears, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

As for Brown, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-4-1. Considering they have won five matchups by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Brown's part, Oscar Wright made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Wright has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Cullen Boles was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Quinn Gallagher, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Coming up, Waggener will welcome Jeffersontown at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Brown, they will venture away from home to challenge Highlands Latin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
