The Sidney Team are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Sidney put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Walton with a sharp 19-2 victory. The Team haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Teagan Stanton-Helms made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Stanton-Helms was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Sidney got a massive performance out of Emily Russo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kate Young, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Sidney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .528. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Bainbridge-Guilford made easy work of Harpursville on Thursday and carried off a 13-4 victory. Considering the Bobcats have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Sidney, Bainbridge-Guilford also got a great game from a two-way player: Kate Baciuska. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Baciuska has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Alessandra Cafasso was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Danica Park was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Bainbridge-Guilford is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Sidney, their record now sits at 2-3.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sidney has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .515. However, it's not like Bainbridge-Guilford struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sidney was able to grind out a solid victory over Bainbridge-Guilford in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 5-2. Will the Team repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
