Navi Bruzon lifted Lions to new heights, now program will look to maintain its heavyweight status without him.

The high school football season in Arizona kicks off this week and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Defending Open Division state champion Liberty (Peoria) owns the No. 1 spot in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25.

The Lions are 32-5 over the past three seasons and will look to maintain their status as state power without quarterback Navi Bruzon, who is now at Arizona State.

Liberty should be strong on both sides of the line with Caden Branston (6-3, 270, DL, Colorado State commit) and Nick Spence (6-6, 280, OL, Minnesota) leading the way.

Arizona's top player, however, belongs to No. 14 Desert Edge (Goodyear). Defensive back Jamar Beal-Goines is headed to Texas A&M next fall after fielding 19 other FBS offers.

In addition to Liberty, defending AIA state champions include Saguaro (Scottsdale) in 6A, Higley (Gilbert) in 5A, Canyon del Oro (Tucson) in 4A, Sabino (Tucson) in 3A, Scottsdale Christian Academy (Phoenix) in 2A and Hayden (Winkelman) in 1A
