Basketball Recap: Tioga Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Tioga won the last time they faced Rapides and things went their way on Monday too. The Tioga Indians snuck past the Rapides Mustangs with a 60-55 victory. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Rapides still got an impressive performance from Zayveian Johnson, who posted 21 points. That was a full 38.2% of Rapides' points, marking the 14th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jayden Wilson was another key player, putting up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Tioga has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Rapides, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.

Tioga has already played their next game (against Grant), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Rapides has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Avoyelles.
