Worthington Kilbourne is 0-10 against Hayes since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. Thursday just wasn't the day for Worthington Kilbourne's offense. They came up short against Dublin Scioto on Thursday, falling 13-0. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Hayes came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Warriors 14-4. Considering the Pacers have won three games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Bronwynn Leighty made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lizzy Gould, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Flynn, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double.
Hayes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westerville North only posted a batting average of .292.
Worthington Kilbourne's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Hayes, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Worthington Kilbourne has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .537. However, it's not like Hayes struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Worthington Kilbourne might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Hayes in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
