Basketball Game Preview: Dexter Tigers vs. Foxcroft Academy Ponies

The Dexter Tigers will face off against the Foxcroft Academy Ponies at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Dexter is headed into the game having just posted their biggest victory since December 11, 2024 on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 55-33 margin over Penquis Valley. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Patriots are ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ethan Doherty and Bryce Cooper were among the main playmakers for Dexter as the former almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards and the latter went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Doherty has posted since back in January of 2024. Isiah Robinson was another key player, putting up ten points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Foxcroft Academy). They took down Houlton 66-49 on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Ponies sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Foxcroft Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Dexter, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
