Basketball Recap: Luling Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Luling hadn't done well against Goliad recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Luling Eagles came out on top against the Goliad Tigers by a score of 59-49. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Luling got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ayden Flores out in front who went 7 for 15 en route to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Flores has scored at least a third of Luling's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaime Gomez, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 17 points and six boards.

Luling's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-13. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Goliad, they now have a losing record at 11-12.

The future could be bright for both Luling and Goliad: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Luling will look to extend Stockdale's seven-game losing streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Goliad will try to hand Nixon-Smiley their third-straight loss when the two meet at 6:20 p.m. on Friday.
