Basketball Game Preview: Thurston Colts vs. Crater Comets

Thurston and Crater are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Thurston Colts will be playing at home against the Crater Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Thurston will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating North Eugene, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Thurston took down North Eugene 70-52 on Wednesday. Given the Colts' advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Highlanders are ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Crater can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 60-49 win over Ashland.

Thurston pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Crater, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Thurston was able to grind out a solid victory over Crater in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 57-49. Will Thurston repeat their success, or does Crater have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
