Softball Game Preview: Calloway County Lakers vs. Carlisle County Comets

Calloway County has gone 8-2 against Carlisle County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Lakers will take on the Comets at 6:00 p.m. Calloway County will be strutting in after a win while Carlisle County will be coming in after a loss.

Calloway County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Murray on Tuesday by a score of 11-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Hailee Jones made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Jones was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Laynee Houk and Lyla Ward did most of the damage at the plate: Houk went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Ward got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Houk a new career-high. Jaylee McLeod also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Calloway County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Carlisle County's offense. They lost 15-0 to Webster County on Saturday. The Comets haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Carlisle County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Calloway County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-20.

Calloway County suffered a grim 17-8 defeat to Carlisle County in their previous matchup last Friday. Can the Lakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
