Basketball Recap: Mountain Heritage Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Mountain Heritage won the last time they faced Avery County and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Mountain Heritage Cougars came out on top against the Avery County Vikings by a score of 67-60.

Mountain Heritage's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lilly Neill, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. What's more, Neill also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Brooks, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 19 points.

Mountain Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Avery County still got an impressive performance from Hallie Johnson, who went 8 for 15 en route to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Hollifield, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Mountain Heritage has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Avery County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-5.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Rosman the next time they take the court. Avery County will head out to face Rosman at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Mountain Heritage will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
