Soccer Game Preview: Sterling vs. Liberty Common

Sterling is 1-9 against Liberty Common since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tigers will head out to challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Sterling's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Tuesday, Sterling didn't have quite enough to beat Fort Morgan and fell 4-3. One reason for the loss might be Sterling's aggressive play style: Haylee Werth and Kylie Mildenberger were both handed yellow cards.

Lydia Boxberger and Cedi Ball scored all three of Sterling's goals, bringing their combined season tally to four goals.

Meanwhile, Liberty Common waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Firebirds with a sharp 7-1 victory. Liberty Common might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by five goals or more this season.

Liberty Common's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Sterling, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3-2.

Sterling might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Liberty Common in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
