Softball Recap: Grace Christian Comes Up Short

After flying high against Rocky Mount Academy last Tuesday, Grace Christian came back down to earth. The Crusaders fell just short of the Lawrence Academy Warriors by a score of 10-8 on Friday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Crusaders, who until this contest were averaging 3.13 runs allowed.

Adison Gardner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Hochevar, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Grace Christian moved to 6-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Lawrence Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Coming up, Grace Christian will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against High Point Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Crusaders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lawrence Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against Cape Fear Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
