Preview: Torrey Pines Falcons vs. Del Norte Nighthawks
After three games on the road, Torrey Pines is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Del Norte Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Torrey Pines' favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Torrey Pines has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 24 points or more this season. They blew past Poway 56-32. Given Torrey Pines' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Poway is ranked 861st), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matin Madadkar was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with five assists. Cody Shen was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, Del Norte pushed their score all the way to 60 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a serious blow against Carlsbad, falling 92-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Tuesday (56), Del Norte still had to take the loss.
Torrey Pines' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26.67 points. As for Del Norte, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Torrey Pines didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Del Norte in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 63-57 win. Does Torrey Pines have another victory up their sleeve, or will Del Norte turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
