Baseball Game Preview: Smoky Hill Buffaloes vs. Mullen Mustangs

Smoky Hill is 1-9 against Mullen since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Buffaloes will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 4:15 p.m.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Smoky Hill turned things around against Mullen on Tuesday. They skirted past the Mustangs 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buffaloes have posted since March 13th.

Nolan Beckwith looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hudson Roth, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Anwyl Gutierrez-Trujillo was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Smoky Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mullen's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9. As for Smoky Hill, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 6-10.
