Baseball Game Preview: Atascadero Greyhounds vs. Garfield Bulldogs

The Atascadero Greyhounds will take on the Garfield Bulldogs in a tournament on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Things were looking good for Atascadero after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lompoc. The Greyhounds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Uly Kaul was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Atascadero: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 6-8 otherwise.

Kaul wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evan Churchill, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Garfield has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.53 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They lost 13-1 to Garces Memorial. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since March 10th.

Garfield has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season. As for Atascadero, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
