Basketball Game Preview: Las Cruces Bulldawgs vs. Hobbs Eagles

Las Cruces is 1-9 against Hobbs since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Las Cruces Bulldawgs will challenge the Hobbs Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Las Cruces sitting on three straight victories and Hobbs on 16.

Las Cruces is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Roswell, who was ranked 11th at the time (Las Cruces was ranked 17th). Las Cruces put the hurt on Roswell with a sharp 64-40 win on Saturday. The Bulldawgs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Hobbs humbled Kirtland Central with an 83-49 victory. The Eagles is also no stranger to big wins: their blowout on Saturday was the 14 game they've won by 20+ points or more this season.

Las Cruces has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.9 points per game. As for Hobbs, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home.

Las Cruces took a serious blow against Hobbs when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 68-29. Can Las Cruces avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
