Basketball Recap: Highland Park Wins Going Away Against Dunellen

While Highland Park didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They enjoyed a cozy 38-23 victory over the Dunellen Destroyers on Wednesday. The team accrued 28 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.

Despite the loss, Dunellen had strong showings from Jahzara McLaughlin, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards, and Sophie Jimenez, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds. McLaughlin is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Highland Park is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Dunellen, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Highland Park will head out to challenge Sayreville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Dunellen, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Kennedy Memorial at 4:30 p.m.
