Bishop Moore waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas 13-2. Considering the Hornets have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Riley Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Ariana Lara was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Sabrina Griffin was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Bishop Moore's record now sits at 9-12. As for New Smyrna Beach, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-11.
Looking ahead, Bishop Moore will welcome Mount Dora at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for New Smyrna Beach, they will take on Spruce Creek in a tournament on Monday. The Barracudas' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
