Basketball Recap: Fort Yukon Picks Up 13th Straight Win at Home

Fort Yukon saw some tournament action on Thursday. They secured a 49-43 W over the Buckland Sissauni. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Sissauni are ranked 64th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fort Yukon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nellie Ward led the charge by putting up 15 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Another player making a difference was Kylee Carroll, who posted 14 points and six rebounds.

Fort Yukon pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.1 points over those games. As for Buckland, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Fort Yukon has already played their next game, a 45-35 victory against Newhalen on the 31st. Buckland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
