The Scottsburg Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Charlestown Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Scottsburg is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Scottsburg let Mitchell stack four runs on them in the seventh inning on Tuesday but luckily Scottsburg prevailed anyway. The Warriors walked away with an 8-4 win over the Bluejackets.
Garrett McClellan made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
McClellan wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Doriot, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was Doriot's first of the season. Braden Cox was another, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Charlestown made sure to put some runs up on the board against Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Cougars. The Pirates have beaten the Cougars the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cougars has come to flipping the script.
Like Scottsburg, Charlestown also got a great game from a two-way player: Lex Rose. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rose was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aj Todd, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Garret Titzer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Charlestown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Scottsburg's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Charlestown, their record is now 9-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Scottsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Charlestown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Scottsburg's way against Charlestown when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Scottsburg made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
