Football Recap: Virginia City Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Virginia City unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by Tonopah and fell 44-6. Virginia City was not able to make up for their defeat to Tonopah from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Virginia City still got an impressive performance from Silas Green, who rushed for 39 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 48 receiving yards.

Tonopah was led to victory by Rustin Otteson and Adelaido Salgado. Otteson rushed for 96 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries, while Salgado gained 221 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Otteson a new career-high in passer rating (153.4).

Looking ahead, Virginia City will face off against Loyalton at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Tonopah, they will square off against Laughlin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Muckers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
