Baseball Recap: Pikeview's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

PikeView can bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Bluefield Beavers. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Trenton Tolliver made a big impact no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Tolliver was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. PikeView is undefeated when Tolliver posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, PikeView let Landon Wyatt and Eli Naylor run wild. Wyatt went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Naylor went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Naylor is becoming a predictor of PikeView's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Eli Hilling was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

PikeView's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Bluefield, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. PikeView will square off against Nicholas County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Bluefield, they will challenge Summers County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.04 runs per game on average), something the Beavers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
