Preview: Stansbury Stallions vs. Peoria Panthers
The Stansbury Stallions and the Peoria Panthers will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Stansbury is hoping to put an end to a 14-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Stansbury took a serious blow against Hillcrest, falling 73-45.
Despite their defeat, Stansbury saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jackson Hymer, who scored eight points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Tobi Johnson, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Stansbury were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Peoria's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 80-46 loss at the hands of Rancho Solano Prep. While losing is never fun, Peoria can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Rancho Solano Prep is ranked 48th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Terrell Colenburg, who scored 11 points. Marcell Colenberg was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Stansbury's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Peoria, they have fallen quite a ways from their 28-5 record last season and are now at 1-9.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's contest: Stansbury have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.7 threes per game. It's a different story for Peoria, though, as they've been averaging only 5.5 threes per game. Given Stansbury's sizeable advantage in that area, Peoria will need to find a way to close that gap.
