Softball Preview: Tri-County Penguins vs. Nekoosa Papermakers

The Tri-County Penguins will square off against the Nekoosa Papermakers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

On Thursday, Tri-County made easy work of Port Edwards and carried off a 16-4 win. That looming 16-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Penguins yet this season.

Paitton Rothermel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Kaylee Goman was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Bristal Brock was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brock was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBI.

In other batting news, Nekoosa got a massive performance out of Montana Rowe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Boerboom, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Tri-County and bumps their season record up to 5-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Nekoosa, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
