Basketball Recap: Wilcox Central Comes Up Short

Wilcox Central played a tough matchup on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Jackson Aggies, falling 58-28. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Aggies are ranked 80th).

Jackson was led to victory by Jalayzia Hunt and Angel Powell. Hunt went 14 of 26 on her way to 29 points in addition to seven steals and six boards, while Powell dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds. Powell has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last nine times she's played. Madison Sims was another key player, putting up six points along with five boards and five blocks.

Wilcox Central has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. As for Jackson, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wilcox Central Jaguars duke it out with the Southside Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Wilcox Central is facing Southside at the right time seeing as Southside is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. Jackson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
