Basketball Recap: Calvert Hall Cardinals vs. Goretti Gael
The Calvert Hall Cardinals lost against the Goretti Gael back in November of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Sunday. Calvert Hall fell to the Gael 60-54. Calvert Hall has not had much luck with the Gael recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Defeat or not, Calvert Hall got some senior leadership from Brendan Johnson and Tyrin Bizzelle. Johnson almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds, while Bizzelle. scored 18 points along with six assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Asaiah Hamond, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Calvert Hall dropped their record down to 10-15 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Goretti, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvert Hall won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Friars at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th. As for Goretti, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Maryland (Our Lady of Mount Carmel is ranked 11th, while the Gael are ranked 19th).
