Basketball Recap: Metro-East Lutheran Comes Up Short

Metro-East Lutheran lost against West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Metro-East Lutheran Knights took a blow against the West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] Cougars, falling 54-21. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 661st, while the Cougars are ranked 274th).

Despite the loss, Metro-East Lutheran still got an impressive performance from Avery Simaytis, who posted six points and six rebounds.

West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs]'s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ali Little led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Little is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofie Grubb, who scored eight points in addition to ten rebounds and eight steals.

Metro-East Lutheran has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season. As for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Metro-East Lutheran didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-31 loss against Maryville Christian on the 16th. West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] has also already played their next match, a 51-49 win against Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia on the 16th.
