Baseball Game Preview: J.Z. George Jaguars vs. Union Yellowjackets

J.Z. George hasn't had much luck against Union recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The J.Z. George Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Union Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. J.Z. George has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for J.Z. George's offense. They came up short against Union on Tuesday, falling 23-0. The defeat leaves the Jaguars still looking for their first win of the season.

For Union's part, Kooper Fultz and Jacob Freeman made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Fultz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Freeman tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Fultz gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Fultz went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one run, while Freeman scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance gave Fultz a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Austin Lee was a standout: he scored three runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rafe Manning, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Union pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.75 hits in those games compared to only 3.86 in the others. As for J.Z. George, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8-2.
