Shadow Creek moves up a spot despite loss to No. 2 North Shore; Top-ranked Duncanville preps for its opener.

The top five teams from last week remained the same in this week's MaxPreps Texas 25 computer high school football rankings. Four teams recorded impressive opening-week wins while top-ranked Duncanville awaits its season-opener this week.

Second-ranked North Shore (Houston), the two-time defending 6A Division 1 champion, used big plays including a game-changing 90-yard interception return for touchdown from five-star junior cornerback Denver Harris to defeat then-No. 7 Shadow Creek (Pearland) 38-21.

Auburn-bound quarterback Dematrius Davis accounted for 275 yards and two touchdowns, including a 20-yard TD sprint up the middle midway through the fourth quarter to cap the Mustangs' 16th straight win.

Despite the loss, Shadow Creek moved up one spot to No. 6. The defending state 5A-I champion Sharks moved the ball well with more than 325 total yards and got two touchdowns from speedy Houston-bound receiver C.J. Guidry (52-yard catch and run, 90-yard kickoff return) but four turnovers did them in.

No. 3 Ryan (Denton) picked up a 47-24 victory over then No. 11 Martin (Arlington) at AT&T Stadium as Texas commit Ja'Tavion Sanders had two offensive touchdowns and a pick-six for Ryan. No. 4 Guyer (Denton) was a 56-33 winner over Hebron and No. 5 Katy beat Clear Springs 28-13.

No. 17 Cy-Fair (Cypress) moved up seven spots following a gritty 13-10 win over Cypress Ranch.

Last week was opening week for 6A and 5A classifications in Texas after COVID-19 pushed back the season four weeks. The state's smaller schools began play earlier. One of those schools, 10th-ranked Argyle continues play Friday at home against Melissa.

Top-ranked Duncanville opens play Friday on the road against South Oak Cliff. The game of the week is 7:30 p.m. Friday when Guyer hosts Ryan, which won last year's game 59-28.
