Baseball Recap: L.C. Bird Comes Up Short

L.C. Bird had lost nine straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-15 to make it ten. They lost 16-3 to the Monacan Chiefs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chiefs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-2 back in April.

As for Monacan, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-10-1. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

For Monacan's part, Braeden Shores was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Shores a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Morris, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nate Taylor, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, L.C. Bird will be playing at home against Richmond High School for the Arts at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17 runs per game on average), something the Skyhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Monacan, they will face off against Huguenot at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.38 runs per game on average), something the Chiefs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
