Softball Recap: Grant Community Comes Up Short

Grant Community dropped their record down to 11-6-1 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Grayslake Central Rams by a score of 7-6. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 6-4 to the Rams when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Grayslake Central, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Grayslake Central's part, Ann Wolff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on ten hits. Wolff has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kate Davies and Emma Andrews did most of the damage at the plate: Davies went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Andrews went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Autumn Aliff also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Grant Community and Grayslake Central should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Bulldogs will take on Lakes at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (126 vs. 258). Meanwhile, Grayslake Central (ranked 165th) will meet Wauconda (ranked 385th) at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
