Baseball Recap: Modesto Christian Comes Up Short

Modesto Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against the Le Grand Bulldogs, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-5 on Tuesday.

Mike Martinez put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Austin Mingham was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Modesto Christian's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Le Grand, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Modesto Christian will face off against Waterford at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Modesto Christian has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Le Grand, they will take on Stone Ridge Christian at 4:00 p.m. on March 18th. Le Grand will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
