Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Guthrie

While Guthrie's victory against Kingfisher wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bluejays sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Yellowjackets on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Bluejays as they're now sitting on three straight.

Owen Wilder was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddox Vaughan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kellen Hirzel, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Guthrie's record is now 18-12. As for Kingfisher, they moved to 17-13 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Guthrie will take on Oklahoma Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Bluejays' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Kingfisher, they will challenge El Reno at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
