Softball Recap: Union Cougars vs. Carbon Dinos
Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 10-4 walloping at the hands of the Carbon Dinos. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Union of the 9-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
Kadyn Kettle was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Mollee Rasmussen, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
On Carbon's side, Kylan Sorenson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Sorenson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Adri Abeyta was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and a triple. Brielle Sandoval was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Union's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Carbon, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-10.
Union is on the road again on Thursday to play Ben Lomond at 3:30 p.m. Union is facing Ben Lomond at the right time seeing as Ben Lomond is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Carbon, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Juab at 3:30 p.m. Both teams will come into the game having just posted big wins, so someone is set to suffer a big change in fortunes.
