Basketball Game Preview: Keystone Wildcats vs. Firelands Falcons

The Keystone Wildcats will face off against the Firelands Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keystone will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

Keystone is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Elyria: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Keystone blew Elyria out of the water with a 73-38 final score. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Vivian Cassell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 19 boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Madyson Sokolowski was another key player, putting up 18 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.

Keystone smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Firelands wrapped up 2024 with a 41-25 victory over Steele.

Keystone pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.3 points per game. As for Firelands, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Keystone against Firelands in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 58-25 victory. Does Keystone have another victory up their sleeve, or will Firelands turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
