Softball Recap: Le Grand's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

Le Grand dropped their record down to 19-7 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell 6-2 to the Chowchilla Tribe. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 4-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2019.

Aaliyah Ceja was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Chowchilla, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games.

On Chowchilla's side, Ava Diaz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Diaz has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brianna Guardado was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Le Grand does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chowchilla, they will square off against Yosemite at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Badgers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.77 runs per game on average), something the Tribe will no doubt try to take advantage of.
