Basketball Recap: Ninety Six Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Ninety Six unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 65-35 loss at the hands of the Saluda Tigers. The Wildcats were down 56-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Ninety Six still got an impressive performance from Janiyah Squire, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 boards. The game was Squire's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bella Stewart, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Ninety Six smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Ninety Six's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-5. As for Saluda, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.

Ninety Six has already played their next contest (against Strom Thurmond), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Saluda didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-34 victory against Batesburg-Leesville on the 28th.
